For over three decades, Modern Vintage Photography (MVP) has earned acclaim as an accomplished artist, masterfully blending traditional and contemporary techniques. Specializing in large-format film, MVP captures the elegance of the human form and delves into consciousness, provoking deep emotional responses. Adept in Platinum and Palladium printing, MVP envisions art as a means to unravel the mysteries of the universe and comprehend our role within it.
Our first encounter with MVP took place at an NFT photography café near the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok’s Chinatown. Initially doubtful, MVP was apprehensive about the value of NFTs. However, our conversation evolved into a comprehensive discussion about their merits and limitations, focusing on alternative revenue streams and the preservation of commercial rights.
The following day, MVP revealed they had been invited to create an NFT collection on the Foundation marketplace. Intrigued by their work, I instantly acquired a piece from the Sleepwalkers collection, marking MVP’s entrance into the blockchain domain.
MVP’s third collection, “Sleepwalkers,” delves into the enigmatic world of dreams, creativity, and the subconscious mind. As questions regarding the nature of dreams, the roots of creativity, and the wellspring of inspiration remain open, artists strive to nourish and foster the elusive space between consciousness and unconsciousness, wakefulness and slumber. MVP believes this ethereal realm offers healing and solace, enabling us to connect with our inner selves.
“Sleepwalkers” examines these experiences, forging visual connections that draw viewers into the spaces unveiled by MVP.
A few days later, we reconvened over dinner, during which MVP discussed their progress in curating the collection. Encouraged, I purchased two additional Sleepwalker pieces, underscoring MVP’s exceptional artistic prowess.
This Open Edition NFT represents a show of support for the artist. A quintessential MVP creation, the striking form and impeccable lighting embody the essence and craftsmanship of Modern Vintage Photography. The photo showcases one of MVP’s muses, Kloy, operating their primary tool, the 1906 Gandolfi whole-plate folding wooden field camera. The image was produced in the artist’s studio on December 5th, 2020.
Whenever I visit Bangkok, I never miss the opportunity to reconnect with MVP. A relaxed afternoon at the Irish pub on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 is always delightful, accompanied by an authentic Irish breakfast.
